The next coin from The "Orthodox Wonder-working icons" - series issued by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.
Legend has it that the icon of the Theotokos of Bialynichy was brought into the territory of modern Belarus by monks fleeing from the invasion of Khan Baty. On a hill near the river Drut they founded the church of St Elijah the Prophet and the monastery. Already on the first night at the selected place the icon began to emanate an unusual light. The miracle repeated in subsequent nights, which became white from the light originating from the icon. In memory of this miracle the place where the monastery was founded has been called White Nights, or Bialynichy. Since 1634, the Icon of Bialynichy has been in Carmelite Monastery of Bialynichy founded in 1624 by Lev Sapieha, Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. According to the local legend, after long prayers of monastery brotherhood the icon was written by the angel-painter, who came to the monastery under the pretence of a pilgrim.
In the opinion of researchers, it was painted in 1634 by an unknown master.
It is known that at the end of the 19th century up to 10,000 pilgrims came annually to worship the miraculous image. In front of the icon of Our Lady one prays for the healing of diseases, for comfort in sorrow. The celebration in honor of the icon of Bialynichy is committed on April 25 (April 12 O.S.). P.A. New issue in the award winning series: Holy Windows. The first and unique painted window coin series in the world. Issue eight is dedicated to the St. Stephens Basilica in Budapest with a window painting of the first king of Hungary.
The Sacred Art series from Numiscollect powers on up to its eighth release featuring the magnificent St.Stephens Basilica in Budapest, Hungary. Released three per year on their debut in 2011 and into 2012, from 2013 the release schedule was dropped to just a single annual release.
The square, but diagonally orientated antique-finish coins, have inset within them a representation in glass of one of the famous stained-glass windows most associated with the subject of the coin. Placed centrally, the design just works, and while nominally in competition with CIT’s Tiffany series, this range stands on its own two feet as being collectable in their own right.
St. Stephen’s Basilica is a Roman Catholic basilica in Budapest, Hungary. Named in honour of Stephen, the first King of Hungary (c 975–1038), whose right hand is housed in the reliquary, it’s currently the third largest church in Hungary and the most important one.
The architectural style is Neo-Classical; it has a Greek cross ground plan and the façade is anchored by two large bell towers. In the southern tower is Hungary’s biggest bell, the Great St. Stephen Bell, weighing over 9 tonnes and being 2.4m in diameter. Its predecessor had a weight of almost 8 tonnes, but it was used for military purposes during World War II, the new bell having been made by the Perner Bell Foundry in Passau, Germany in 1990. There are five others within the Basilica.

The Aureus was valued at 25 silver denarii and was about the same diameter, but heavier due to the differing densities of gold and silver. Julius Caesar standardised the weight at 1/40th of a Roman pound (8.18g), but as with anything in the financial world, they gradually got smaller and smaller until by the time of the Emperor Constantine, they were replaced by the Solidus, a coin weighing only 4.55 grams. Analysis of the Roman aureus shows the purity level usually to have been near to 24 carat gold in excess of 99%.
Because the Roman government issued base-metal coinage but refused to take anything but gold or silver coinage in payment for taxes, inflation was rampant, Along with the debasement of the silver denarius which by the mid 3rd century AD was virtually devoid of actual silver, the aureus became worth more and more relatively speaking. In 301, one gold aureus was worth 833⅓ denarii; by 324, the same aureus was worth 4,350 denarii. In 337, after Constantine converted to the solidus, one solidus was worth 275,000 denarii and finally, by 356, one solidus was worth 4,600,000 denarii. Echos of today’s farcical fiat systems perhaps…
Niue presented new issue depicting aureus on reverses (first and second coins).
The third coin Aureus Iustitia
Obverse: In the centre effigy of the Queen Elizabeth II. Around the coin inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II”, “NIUE”, “ONE DOLLAR”, “15,5g” (weight of the coin), “2014″and the hallmark “Ag999,9″.
Reverse: On the right hand side of the coin reverse there are the replicas of the Aureus – a gold coin from the ancient Rome, minted during emperor Vespasian (lat. Vespasianus) period (69–79). On the obverse of the ancient coin a profile of the emperor Vespasian, on the reverse of the ancient coin the sitting goddess of justice, with scepter and patera. On the left side of the coin a modern personification of blindfolded justice with a sword and a balance. Inscription (a Latin phrase): “Ubi civitas ibi ius” (“Where the state there the law”).

The Government & Treasury of Niue have launched a new set of coins which feature the extraordinary and mythical designs of ancient on a unique pyramid-shaped coin to enhance those designs. The technology utilized in the production of these four-sided, pyramid-shaped coins is that of a similar process used for the well-known Fortuna Redux coins produced by the Mint last year.
For thousands of years people have been aware of positive, healing properties of pyramid-shaped objects. In the interiors of such objects magnificent energy of space is concentrated. Several studies have suggested that a positive effect that even scale model replicas of pyramids have on their surroundings when placed in accordance to magnetic cardinal directions.
The Great Pyramids of Giza are one of the largest works of architecture made by humankind. Built for pharaohs Khufu, Khafra and Menkaure, the pyramids fascinate us with their perfect design, position and purpose resulting in thousands of years of marvel at the incredible skills and knowledge of its designers for nearly five millennia. Although these out-of-the-ordinary treasures of Egyptian architecture have been subjected to wind, dampness, sand storms, deconstruction and pillaging for centuries, they have remained almost intact becoming a symbol of the highly developed civilization and, an immortal symbol of pharaoh’s divinity. The craftsmanship evident on these coins is the result of merging the skill of designers from two far-distant epochs of contemporary and ancient times as well as those of two very different elements of artistry – one in stone, the other in precious metal. The coins exquisitely detail the ancient Egyptian characteristic for that period – a faithful replication of images of three great pharaohs as well as decorative motifs taken from the tomb of Queen Hetepheres and the statue of Nofret of Meidum.
The coins, which have a weight of three troy ounces of pure silver each are designed by Urszula Walerzak and produced by the Mint of Poland on behalf of the Treasury of Niue. Three sides of the reverse depict effigies of three great pharaohs of the fourth dynasty – Khufu, Khafra and Menkaure. The forth side shows decorative elements characteristic of the era, taken from the tomb of Queen Hetepheres (Khufu’s mother) and the statue of Nofret.
The obverse or bottom side includes the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which was created by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley and used on commemorative & circulation coins of many commonwealth countries since 1998. On the right of the Queen’s portrait is a mint mark (m/w). Along the rim are the inscriptions “NIUE ISLAND” along with “2014” and the coin’s face value of “15 DOLLARS”. Also included in the text is the hallmark of “Ag 999” and the name of the coin’s series “THE GREAT PYRAMIDS”.Сountry: | Niue | ||

The Royal Dutch Mint have announced the launch of the popular Dutch gold Ducats. Both the one and two Ducat sizes with the year “2014” will be available from October. For the first time, the Royal Dutch Mint have added that the final mintage will be determined by the pre-ordering or reservations received by interested collectors before the 15th August, thereafter, that will be the number of each one and two ducat pieces produced. However, the Royal Dutch Mint have also added that a maximum mintage for each coin has been set which will not be exceeded.
Dutch Ducat coins have a very long history, which spans more than four centuries with the striking of both silver and gold ducat coins in 1586 during the Dutch Republic. The coins were sought after and quickly gained a reputation of accuracy both in fineness and weights in an era when many coins were often under-weight or debased in some way. That tradition continued from the Dutch Republic into the modern era when the Kingdom of the Netherlands was proclaimed in 1815.
The obverse design for both coins is inspired & reproduced from later strikes which were issued from 1817 and depict a standing knight facing to the right with a sword in right hand and holding a cluster of five arrows in his left hand. The legend in Latin reads “PARVAE CRESCUNT CONCORDIA RES” (In Harmony Small Things Grow). The two ducat strike includes a second circlet of dots towards the center. The year of issue “2014” is portioned in two digits and appears on either side of the knight along with the two current Royal Dutch mintmarks on both one and two ducat coins.
The reverse design for both versions is identical and includes a square shape surrounded with baroque vignettes on all sides along with the text “MO. AUR. REG. BELGII AD IMPERII” (Gold Money of the Kingdom of the Belgae According to Imperial Law). The inscription Refers to the Low Countries as Belgica Foederata or the “Federated Netherlands” and Belgica Regia, or the “Royal Netherlands”.
