Welcoming a newborn baby into the world is a time for celebration and joy. The Perth Mint is proud to release the 2014 Newborn Baby coin in a stunning gift card, the perfect gift to mark this special occasion.

Each coin is issued as Australian legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date, the monetary denomination and the coin’s weight and fineness are shown on the coin’s obverse.

In Western folklore, parents have been telling their children for centuries that babies are delivered by a stork. As an Australian take on this legend, the coin’s reverse depicts a cute Australian kookaburra carrying a sleeping newborn baby in a swaddling cloth. A representation of Australian vegetation, the inscription "CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BABY" and The Perth Mint’s "P" mintmark are also incorporated into the design.

The 2014 Newborn Baby coin is housed in an elaborate Australian themed gift card, with room to write the babies details, a family tree and a place to house a photograph.

Национальный монетный двор Португалии в ноябре 2013 года изготовил медаль, посвященную Международному году водного сотрудничества.

2013 год был, согласно решению ООН, Международным годом водного сотрудничества. Ведь кооперация в сфере водных ресурсов играет решающую роль в обеспечении безопасности, борьбе с бедностью и достижении социальной справедливости.

На лицевой стороне медали изображен счетчик воды, на котором указан год чеканки «2013» и три водомера. Водомеры символизируют понятия о правильном использовании воды: «Cooperação» (Сотрудничество), «Consciencialização» (Понимание) и «Contabilização» (Учет).

На оборотной стороне изображена оригинальная композиция — круги на воде, причем изменение цвета акрила передает изменение глубины. В левой части, вдоль края медали, полукругом написано – «2013 — Ano Internacional da Cooperação Pela Água». В правой верхней части полукругом обозначен знак монетного двора и написано имя дизайнера – «R. Queiroga» (Rita Queiroga).

The Siamese cat comes from the Far East. The first mention of this breed was made in the 16th century. Legend has it that the eyes of Siamese cats are a gift given to them by gods, who wanted to thank them for protecting their altars from a robbery. They are often called the royal cats of Siam (the current area of Thailand) where they used to play the role of guards of royal palaces and temples. These cats, cherished so much by female lovers of beauty, for centuries have been accompanying people, being for us a charming symbol of pride and elegance.

The Maine Coon is one of the oldest breeds of domestic cats coming from North America. The first specimen of the breed was found in Maine, hence the name. Legend has it that there were Maine Coons in the wild in the state of Maine from which their name was taken. The second part of the name is a colloquial term defining a common raccoon. However, the folk tale of Maine Coons descending partially from raccoons is just a legend. The second myth relates to Vikings, who apparently took Norwegian forest cats on board of their vessels. These cats may have crossed with local cats, thus giving birth to the breed.

Mint of Poland is delighted to present the second coin of the "Mysteries of History" series.

Within the series there will be issued the following coins, featuring images of the Amber Room, the Holy Grail, the Treasure of the Admiral and the Templar Legacy. The coins of the series are the perfect combination of art achievements and mint skills. They owe their originality to the highest craftsmanship and spellbinding decoration in the form of a lapis lazuli insert.

The Ark of the Covenant – one of the most significant objects of worship of the ancient Israelites. According to the Old Testament, the legendary Ark of the Covenant was the chest made of shittim wood measuring about 140 x 80 x 80 cm. According to tradition, made of — as related in some accounts – lapis lazuli Tablets of Stone on which Ten Commandments were inscribed used to be kept inside the chest. The Ark of the Covenant was built around the 13th century BC. It was the centre of worship during the journey of Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land. After the conquest of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar II in 587 BC, the Ark of the Covenant got lost.
