The Perth Mint is proud to present the Transformers: Age of Extinction 2014 1oz Silver Proof Lenticular Coins. Each commemorative portrays an iconic Transformers character – Optimus Prime, Bumblebee or Lockdown.

Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots, a brave and compassionate commander determined to improve the universe. Optimus Prime finds himself constantly in battle with the Decepticons in his quest to protect the inhabitants of Earth, and the universe at large. In Transformers: Age of Extinction this fearless leader is depicted as a semi-truck on transformation.

Bumblebee was the second character to ever appear on-screen in the original animated series, The Transformers, when it debuted in 1984. Back then, Bumblebee transformed into a yellow Volkswagen Beetle. Thirty years on, fan-favourite Bumblebee is back for the fourth instalment of the popular Transformers movie franchise. In Transformers: Age of Extinction, Bumblebee is depicted as a yellow Chevrolet Camaro on transformation.

Lockdown  is a rogue Transformers Decepticon, and ruthless bounty hunter who will stop at nothing to bring in his bounty. With a head that can change into a gun, he is a truly dangerous killer. In the original animated series, The Transformers, he was an Autobot CyberNinja who trained under Yoketron, before being banished for betraying him. Lockdown later returned to kill Yoketron as his first job as a bounty hunter. In Transformers: Age of Extinction, Lockdown is back with a vengeance, and is depicted as a Lockdown Supercar on conversion.

With the use of lenticular lenses, each coin’s reverse depicts a coloured portrait of either Optimus Prime, Bumblebee or Lockdown morphing from a robot to a semi-truck, yellow Chevrolet Camaro or Lockdown Supercar respectively, as they appear in the movie Transformers: Age of Extinction. Each coin is bordered by the inscription OPTIMUS PRIME, BUMBLEBEE or LOCKDOWN and includes The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. The character images transform from one to the other as the coin is moved.

Under official license of Hasbro, each of the Transformers: Age of Extinction2014 1oz Silver Proof Lenticular Coins is issued by The Perth Mint.

Issued a legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, each coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by a chequered border, the monetary denomination, and the 2014 year-date.

On June 23, 2014 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues two coins of the series «The 40th Anniversary of the Beginning of Baikal-Amur Mainline Construction».

The obverse: a relief image of the Emblem of the Bank of Russia — a two-headed eagle with wings down, and a semicircular inscription under it «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA), framed with a circle of beads. Inscriptions along the rim divided by dots indicate the denomination of the coins «ДВАДЦАТЬ ПЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ» (TWENTY FIVE ROUBLES), «ПЯТЬДЕСЯТ РУБЛЕЙ» (FIFTY ROUBLES) respectively and the year of issue «2014», between them there is an indication of the metal according to D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Saint Petersburg mint and fine precious metal content.

Reverse: of the silver proof coin bears relief images of workers laying rails against a background of forest contours. There is a scheme of Baikal-Amur Mainline at the bottom, a date «1974» on the left and inscriptions «БАМ» (BAM) on the scheme and «НАЧАЛО СТРОИТЕЛЬСТВА» (BEGINNING OF CONSTRUCTION) along the circumference at the bottom;

Reverse: of the gold proof coin depicts relief images of profiles of men and women — builders of Baikal-Amur Mainline against a background of hills and a railway bridge across a river. There is an inscription in four lines «40 ЛЕТИЕ НАЧАЛА СТРОИТЕЛЬСТВА БАМ» (THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BEGINNING OF BAIKAL-AMUR MAINLINE CONSTRUCTION).

Why did the pig become a symbol of good fortune? The term «Lucky Pig» originates from the middle ages and means to have unexpected luck. At that time the pig was also an object of wealth.

One of the most attractive coins released last year was the Koru, the 2013 entry in the New Zealand Posts ‘Maori Art’ series. 

This time around the coin celebrates the creation myth of Rangi & Papa and has been struck by the Royal Australian Mint for the New Zealand Post, not to be confused with the New Zealand Mint, an entirely different organisation that doesn’t produce coins for native New Zealand, but generally for Niue.

In Māori mythology the primal couple Ranginui and Papatuanuku appear in a creation myth explaining the origin of the world. They are the primordial parents, the sky father and the earth mother who lie locked together in a tight embrace. They have many children all of which are male, who are forced to live in the cramped darkness between them. These children grow and discuss among themselves what it would be like to live in the light. Tūmatauenga, the fiercest of the children, proposes that the best solution to their predicament is to kill their parents.

But his brother Tāne disagrees, suggesting that it is better to push them apart, to let Ranginui be as a stranger to them in the sky above while Papatuanuku will remain below to nurture them. The others put their plans into action—Rongo, the god of cultivated food, tries to push his parents apart, then Tangaroa, the god of the sea, and his sibling Haumia-tiketike, the god of wild food, join him. In spite of their joint efforts Rangi and Papa remain close together in their loving embrace. After many attempts Tāne, god of forests and birds, forces his parents apart. Instead of standing upright and pushing with his hands as his brothers have done, he lies on his back and pushes with his strong legs. Stretching every sinew Tāne pushes and pushes until, with cries of grief and surprise, Ranginui and Papatuanuku were pried apart.

Rangi is the personified sky. He corresponds in name and substance to the Indonesian (Upu), Langi (Ceram), (Upu) Lanito (Ambon), ‘Lord Sky’. He also corresponds in substance to the Chinese Tien, the Mongol Tengri, as well as to the Vedic Dyaus, the Greek Zeus, the Latin Jupiter and the Germanic Tiu.

The 2014 Māori Art Coin is the fourth coin in New Zealand Post’s Māori Art Coin series. The coin shows Tāne separating Papatūānuku and Ranginui, creating the world of light. The intricate design is based on leading New Zealand artist Cliff Whiting’s mixed media mural, ‘Te wehenga o Rangi rāua ko Papa’ (the separation of heaven and earth). This well known piece of art can be seen in the reading room in the National Library of New Zealand in Wellington. The obverse carries the usual portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley.

This striking $10 coin is contained within a wakahuia, a carved vessel created for the purpose of holding taonga (treasures). The wakahuia has been designed and carved from black maire by Rangi Kipa and David Hakaraia. Rangi’s work is at the forefront of the contemporary Māori art world. The lid features a double interlocking spiral carved into it, known as a ‘takarangi’.

This striking $1 coin is a perfect addition to any Māori art collection and is housed in a special container featuring the takarangi design.This design represents the separation of Ranginui and Papatūānuku.

From 19 May 2014, the Bulgarian National Bank releases in circulation a silver commemorative coin ‘Trоyan Monastery’ from the series ’Bulgarian Churches and Monasteries’. It will be sold at the BNB teller desks for BGN 66, VAT included.

The Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God (Bulgarian: Троянски манастир „Успение Богородично“) or, as it is more commonly called, the Troyan Monastery is the third largest monastery in Bulgaria. It is located in the northern part of the country in the Balkan mountains and was founded no later than the end of the 16th century.

The obverse of the coin features on the left: the icon of Virgin Mary with Three Hands kept at the Troyan Monastery; on the right (one below the other): the nominal value ‘10 ЛЕВА’ (10 levs), the BNB logo with the year ‘1879’ on the strip, and (perpendicularly underneath) the year of issue ‘2014’; the inscription ‘БЪЛГАРСКА НАРОДНА БАНКА’ (Bulgarian National Bank) in semicircle.

The reverse features the monastery complex and the inscriptions ‘ТРОЯНСКИ МАНАСТИР’ and ‘УСПЕНИЕ БОГОРОДИЧНО’ (Troyan Monastery and the Assumption of Virgin Mary) in semicircles.

A Proof 2014 Baby Beaver silver $20 coin from the Royal Canadian Mint is the first coin in a series honoring baby animals.

The Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse.

The reverse of the coin shows a colorful baby beaver kit gnawing twigs with its mother (who is not colorized) along a river bank.

By wildlife artist Glen Loates, the reverse design shows the baby beaver in three-quarter profile (facing left) as it stands poised at the river’s edge, its flat tail partially submerged, the ripples surrounding it showing ever so slight movement. The beaver’s teeth are on full display as the kit gnaws a small branch. Its brown-colored fur stands in contrast to the bright green-colored leaves of the balsam poplar tree (Populus balsamifera) branch gripped by the kit’s mother in the background.

The Cybernetics $1 aluminium bronze coin is the third design in The Perth Mint's exciting Young Collectors Super Powers series which looks at superheroes and their superpowers. As technology advances, Cybernetics is becoming more of a reality.

A Cyborg is someone that has enhanced or improved abilities due to technology, made up of both organic and mechanical parts, making them almost superhuman.

The coin’s reverse features a coloured representation of a cyborg with an artificial eye, and a mechanical arm and leg, kicking through a brick wall. As well as the inscription CYBERNETICS, the design also includes The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2014 year-date are featured on the coin’s obverse.

On 17 June 2014, Latvijas Banka is issuing a new 5 euro collector coin dedicated to "The White Book" by Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš. The coin has been designed by Sandra Krastiņa and struck by Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt (the Netherlands). It features the cover of "The White Book" and illustrations from it.

The coin is a dedication to "The White Book", a masterpiece created by an outstanding Latvian writer and painter Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš (1877–1962). Its first part was published in 1914, with the second to follow in 1921. It is a fictional memoir of the writer's childhood seen through the eyes of the protagonist Jancis, and, at the same time, a panorama of the Latvian rural life at the close of the 19th century, supplemented with heartfelt illustrations by the author himself.

The deceptively provincial lessons of "The White Book" are at the very heart of the patriotic call "Remember Latvia!" once voiced by Jaunsudrabiņš. Honouring this sincere call, Latvijas Banka is issuing a silver euro collector coin to commemorate the centenary of Jaunsudrabiņš' masterpiece "The White Book".

This is the 100th collector coin and the second in the collection of euro-denominated coins issued by Latvijas Banka (the coins of precious metal denominated in lats, in fact works of art, were called collector coins; all in all, 98 of them have been issued). Thus, the issuance of collector coins with motifs characteristic of Latvia executed in high artistic quality is continued. As before, Latvijas Banka is projecting to produce 5–7 collector coins with the euro nominal on an annual basis.

Obverse
The coin's obverse features an image of the cover of Jaunsudrabiņš' White Book adorned with floating clouds. The inscription LATVIJAS REPUBLIKA is running down from the top along its right side, and the year 2014 is placed slantwise on the left. The square background features contours of a birch-tree-enclosed homestead, an illustration from the book. The inscription "5 euro" is placed at the bottom right.

Reverse
The reverse features an image of the book's cover with the title Baltā grāmata (The White Book) in Gothic lettering and the year 1914. The square background bears an image of a small boy and the Sun shining on him, an illustration from the book. Facsimile signature of Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš is placed at the bottom.

The coin will be on sale at Latvijas Banka (cashier offices at K. Valdemāra ielā 1B in Riga, Liepāja Branch and Daugavpils Branch) and such traditional points of sale as banks and souvenir and jewellery shops. The price of the coin at Latvijas Banka's cashier offices is 51.65 euro.

As Australia continues to commemorate a century of service, the Royal Australian Mint remembers another unsung hero from another war. ‘G for George’, a heavy bomber from the SecondWorld War, is being honoured on a coin which will be a musthave for those with an interest in military history or aviation.

‘G for George’ was an active Avro Lancaster heavy bomber which was constructed in 1942 and flew 90 operational missions over Nazi-occupied territory during the Second World War. Its affectionate nickname was the result of the prominent ‘G’ in its squadron code, and the plane was both empowering and uniting for over 10,000 airmen. Servicemen crewed this aircraft in RAF Bomber Command until its retirement in 1944. It now sits proudly on display in the Australian War Memorial’s ANZAC Hall, as an embodiment of the strength, endurance and sacrifices of those who served in the war. On the 70th anniversary of its retirement, this coin serves as a lasting memento of its iconic service.

Packaged in a card featuring the plane schematic and images of the 90 missiles displayed on the side of G for George representing the number of missions it flew. Packaging features the Australian War Memorial’s First World War centenary logo. Coin’s reverse features ‘G for George’ against a background of missiles dropped by the plane.

The Royal Canadian Mint has issued the third coin in the ‘Canadian Great Lakes’ series featuring Lake Erie. 

The fourth largest of the Great Lakes in terms of surface area, Lake Erie is the smallest in volume. It is hydrologically supplied by the three upper Great Lakes—Superior, Michigan, and Huron—as well as Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair River and drains into the Niagara River and the Welland Canal. The Point Pelee peninsula on Erie’s northern shore is the most southerly mainland point in Canada.

This coin features an interpretation of the bathymetric depths below the lake surface based on data from the Canadian Hydrographic Service and highlighted with coloured enamel.
