The Perth Mint (Australia) is pleased to present the first release in this special new series — «Lioness», celebrating the unique bond between a mother and her offspring in the wild features a mother lioness and her cub.

The special bond between a mother lioness and her cubs is forged from when she withdraws from her pride to deliver them in seclusion.  With her newborns dependent on her for weeks after birth, the protective mother frequently relocates her young to prevent them from being detected by predators. The connection between a mother and her offspring is unlike any other. A heart-warming new series, Mother’s Love, captures this love in the animal kingdom with the first release featuring a lioness and her cub.

The coin’s reverse features a golden lion cub being nurtured by its mother among grasslands. The inscription LIONESS and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark also appear in the design.

Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date, and the monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 4,500 of these Mother’s Love – Lioness 20141/2oz Silver Proof Coins in this packaging from a maximum mintage of 6,000.
