The 2014 Australian Koala silver coin captures the charming koala with a close up image of the popular marsupial with a spray of gum leaves.
Koala emblems and popular culture deals with the uses which have been made of the image of the Koala such as coins, emblems, logos, mascots and in the naming of sports teams. The Koala is the official fauna symbol of Queensland, Australia.
Each coin is issued as Australian legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination on the obverse.
The coin’s reverse depicts a close up (coloured) image of an adult koala with a spray of gum leaves. The design includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN KOALA and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
