Immortalising the «heroes of the Arena» in Ancient Rome comes this superbly struck, antique-finished tribute to the Gladiator!
There were many different types of gladiator in ancient Rome. Some of the first gladiators had been prisoners of war, and so some of the earliest types of gladiators used their native weapons and armor.
Different gladiators specialized in different weapons, and it was usual to pair off combatants with widely different, but more or less equivalent, equipment.
This marvelous silver coin shows the «provocator», one of the most popular types of gladiators, well struck together with an antique finish to create a greater depth in the design. Behind the Gladiator is the Roman Colosseum, and above that is a splash of colour signifying the fury the battles within the Colosseum generate. On the obverse is the country and year of issue, together with the Fiji coat of arms and the coin denomination.
Each silver coin is encapsulated and presented in a black jewel case with vibrant outer box and Certificate of Authenticity.
