A new Royal Canadian Mint "$200 for $200" series launched Thursday, July 17, with the public release of the 2014 $200 Towering Forests 2 Ounce Silver Coin. The release marks the inaugural strike from the Mint’s Landscapes of the North program and is available for its legal tender face value of CAD $200.
Additional two-ounce silver coins will be offered in the future as part of the Landscapes of the North series with each showcasing a different design emblematic of the natural beauty of Canada.
On the reverse of the Towering Forests 2 Ounce Silver Coin is Canadian artist Ellen Cowie’s vision of the forests of Canada along with several of the creatures that inhabit them. Inscriptions around the 360° design include CANADA, 200 DOLLARS, and 2014. The artist’s initials of "EC" also appear toward the right half of the image.
Each coin is produced as legal tender of Canada and features Susanna Blunt’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Inscriptions on the front include ELIZABETH II and D.G. REGINA.
