A goldfish from time immemorial has been known as a symbol of good fortune and serenity. In Ancient Greece it was believed that a goldfish brings prosperity to marriages while in Egypt it was recognized as a guardian of a family’s happiness.
Obverse: On the right – the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Below – an irregular inscription: ELIZABETH II. Around – inscriptions: NIUE ISLAND (the issuer), 2014 (the year of issue), the mint mark: m/w, 2 DOLLARS (the face value) and the hallmark: Ag 999. On the left side of the coin – a transparent capsule containing a silver gold-plated element in the shape of an angel. In the background – petite motifs of flowers.
Reverse: On the left, in the upper part of the coin – a transparent capsule containing a silver 24-carat gold-plated fish. On the right – an image of a goldfish embellished with digital printing. At the bottom – a fish recreated in relief. In the background – a stylized surface enriched with multicolour decorative motifs. In the upper part of the coin, along the rim – an inscription: GOOD LUCK.
