This coin is part of the Royal Canadian Mint’s beloved O Canada series that focuses on iconic Canadian images: this coin pays tribute to the cowboy in the Canadian Rockies.

This coin, struck in a half-ounce of pure silver, pays tribute to the long-standing cowboy culture of Western Canada. These modern-day cowboys come from a long line of cattle ranchers, and recently have been engaged in a struggle to protect their heritage as the divide between urban and rural life in Alberta looms to challenge cattle ranching traditions.

The reverse design of this coin features an image by Canadian artist Bernie Brown, and depicts a Canadian cowboy on horseback, leading a second horse through the Canadian Rockies. The second horse appears to be carrying a load of provisions, likely en route to a back-country adventure. The landscape around them boasts the jagged peaks of the Canadian Rockies, which stretch high into the sky.
