200th Anniversary of the Birth of Hipolit Cegielski

On December 2013, Narodowy Bank Polski is putting into circulation three coins dedicated 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Hipolit Cegielski.

Hipolit Cegielski (1813–1868) is a co-creator of the foundations of Polish self organisation and modern economical life in the times of Prussian annexation. After he had finished his philology studies in Berlin, he started his professor’s career at the gymnasium of Saint Magdalena. In 1846 he stood up to the Prussian authorities, who had given him an order to search through students lodgings, which resulted in him loosing the job. As a head of household, Cegielski had to find another livelihood, what lead him to establishing an enterprise which in short time became the largest factory of agricultiral machines in a region. He was an undisputed leader of the Polish community in Poznan.

The coin designed to commemorate a figure of Hipolit Cegielski – one of the most honored Polish social activists of the 19th centrury.

Coin 200 zł

Obverse: On the right side of the coin – an image of a manufacturing machine. Above – the face value: 200 zł. On the left – the year of issue: 2013.  In the upper part of the coin – an image of an eagle from the coat of arms of the Republic of Poland. Along the rim – an inscription: RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA (the Republic of Poland).

Reverse: In the central part of the coin – a profile portrait of Hipolit Cegielski. In the background – an element of a manufacturing machine. Below – the mark of the issuer. Along the rim – an inscription: HIPOLIT CEGIELSKI (the name of the coin). Designer: Sebastian Mikołajczak

Coin 10 zł

Obverse: In the centre – an inscription: RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA (the Republic of Poland). Above – a miniature image of an eagle from the coat of arms of the Republic of Poland.  In the background – a decorative surface with a proof mirror like image of a manufacturing machine. Below – the face value: 10 zł. Along the rim – the year of issue: 2013.

Reverse: In the central part of the coin – an effigy of  Hipolit Cegielski. On the left – the mark of the issuer. In the background – a stylized decorative surface. Along the rim – inscriptions: HIPOLIT CEGIELSKI, 1813 – 1868 (the years of birth and death of Cegielski). Designer: Sebastian Mikołajczak

Obverse: In the central part of the coin – an image of an eagle from the coat of arms of the Republic of Poland.  Below – an inscription: 2013 (the year of issue). Along the rim – inscriptions: RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA (the Republic of Poland), ZŁ 2 ZŁ (the face value). Obverse designer: Ewa Tyc-Karpińska.

Reverse: The reverse of the coin depicts an image of Hipolit Cegielski with his signature. Along the rim – inscriptions: HIPOLIT CEGIELSKI, 1813 – 1868 (the year of birth and death of Cegielski) and the mark of the issuer. >Reverse designer: ;Sebastian Mikołajczak
