The second coin in the Royal Canadian Mint's exciting new "Stained Glass" series celebrating Canadian public art. Second of five coins in the "Stained Glass" series!
With their ability to transform a single sunbeam into an array of dazzling colours, stained glass windows have captivated architects and artists alike. The Royal Canadian Mint proudly celebrates the timeless artistry of stained glass windows–one of Canada's most widespread forms of public art–with the introduction of its dazzling "Stained Glass" series of coins.
The reverse image of this coin features a colour reproduction of the central disc of the McCausland stained glass dome in Toronto's Casa Loma. At the heart of the disc lies a raised polished silver circle framed with engraved rays. The image is divided into four quadrants by raised silver lines spanning from the central circle to the coin's raised outer rim. Each of the four lines bears a stylized cluster of nine purple grapes. These four clusters are separated from each other by dark green leaves set against a whimsically engraved lighter green palazzo-like background. A golden vine encircles the central portion of the image, winding its way around the coin from central curlicues that surround the central circle. The outer rim of the image is lined with alternating light green segments.

The most prolific issuer of precious metal coins that sell for their face value, the Royal Canadian Mint has expanded the range from its original $20 denomination, through $50 and $100 to a new high, $200. As with the previous ranges, this one is struck in 0.9999 silver but increases in size to a healthier two troy ounces.
The first coin in this new series called ‘Landscapes of the North’ is titled ‘Towering Forests’ and the reverse side artwork is a beautiful representation of that theme. Designed by Canadian artist Ellen Cowie, the artwork revolves 360 degrees around a central waterway and depicts a myriad mix of Canadian flora and fauna, completely filling up the generous 50 mm diameter coin. No matter what orientation you hold the coin, some of the animals will always be the correct way up.
Helped by the usual Masters Club head-start, the coin will likely be at least 50% sold by the end of the weekend, so not one to hang around on if you want it.
Reverse: depicts a small waterfall and stream in a circular layout surrounded by a range of flora, including multiple maple leaves, and fauna. The animals depicted range from a frog, through numerous birds and on to a mix of mammals like a bear, a wolf and a beaver. At the top is the inscription CANADA, and at the bottom the inscription 200 DOLLARS 2014 representing the denomination and date of issue. Embedded in the artwork at the 3′o’clock position are the artists initials, EC.
Obverse: carries the usual Susannah Blunt portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, along with the inscription QUEEN ELIZABETH II to the left and D. G. REGINA to the right.
Packaging: the coin ships in an attractive coloured box instead of the usual maroon clamshell case and looks all the better for it.

The Bank of Korea have announced that they will release a set of two commemorative coins to celebrate the upcoming visit of Pope Francis.
His Holiness the pope is scheduled to visit the Republic of Korea from the 14th to the 18th August during which he will conduct four Masses, including one for the beatification of 124 Korean Catholic martyrs and another for a gathering of Catholic youths in Asia. His Holiness is also expected to console families of those who died in the mid-April Sewol ferry disaster in which 293 passengers lost their lives, many of them young people. It is his first visit to Asia since his Papal inauguration last year. The Bank of Korea said it will issue a total of 90,000 silver and brass coins to “spread the message of reconciliation and peace, the key purpose of the Pope’s visit.”
The two coin designs have incorporated both Catholic symbols of peace and Korea’s traditional symbols. The design of the silver coin (50,000 Won) will include the “taegeuk” symbol, a hallmark of South Korea’s national flag, with crosses and a dove bearing an olive branch on the obverse. The reverse will include the commemorative text “POPE FRANCIS’VISIT TO KOREA” above the center of the design that includes the papal coat of arms. Below the crest is the text “2014 BANK OF KOREA 50000 WON”.
The brass coin’s design (10,000 Won) includes the shape of a cross adorned with symbols like lilies, olive branches, a stylized dove and the rose of Sharon, the country’s national flower. The reverse design is the same as the silver issue.

Equatorial Guinea issued a beautiful gold coin dedicated to the famous Portuguese navigator.
The reverse shows Equatorial Guinea Coat of Arms.
Fernão do Pó (also Fernão Pó, Fernando Pó, Fernando Poo) (15th century) was a Portuguese navigator and explorer of the West African coast. He discovered the islands in the Gulf of Guinea around 1472, one of which until the mid-1900s bore a version of his name, Fernando Pó or Fernando Poo. The island is now named Bioko, part of Equatorial Guinea. His name had also been given to several other places in nearby Cameroon; the village of Fernando Pó, Portugal; the village of Fernando Pó, Sierra Leone.
Little is known about him or his life. He was one of the navigators working for Fernão Gomes, joining João de Santarém, Pedro Escobar, Lopo Gonçalves, and Pedro de Sintra, a merchant from Lisbon who was granted a monopoly over trade in part of the Gulf of Guinea. He was awarded an aristocratic title and land by the Portuguese crown. His descendants still live in their historic home. Descendants also emigrated to Cuba and eventually to the United States where they still live today. The common family name having evolved into dePoo. He was among a number of navigators who explored the Gulf of Guinea during this period on behalf of King Afonso V of Portugal.
Fernando Pó is credited as being the first European explorer to discover the south western coast of Africa. Before Fernando Pó, Europeans believed Africa was a large island. Pó discovered the western "elbow" of the continent and the long south western coast.Сountry: | Republic of Equatorial Guinea |

Spectacular designs for this five coin's series dedicated to the babies of biggest and the most amazing African animals. The Leopard is the first coin of this interesting series.
African Leopard are graceful and powerful big cats closely related to lions, tigers, and jaguars. They live in sub-Saharan Africa, northeast Africa, Central Asia, India, and China. However, many of their populations are endangered, especially outside of Africa. In 2008, the IUCN classified leopards as Near Threatened, stating that they may soon qualify for the Vulnerable status due to habitat loss and fragmentation. They are becoming increasingly rare outside protected areas. The trend of the population is decreasing.
African leopards exhibit great variation in coat color, depending on location and habitat. Coat color varies from pale yellow to deep gold or tawny, and sometimes black, and is patterned with black rosettes while the head, lower limbs and belly are spotted with solid black.
The obverse depicts the Republic of Burundi emblem.
This coin stands for up-to-date minting technology and quality. The reverse design rich of details depicts a monochromatic baby leopard or a colored baby leopard. The coin is accompanied by a numbered COA.

The Royal Mint have launched their latest addition to the series of 12 Lunar coins to be struck for the United Kingdom. The series launched last year with the striking depiction of the Year of the Horse issue, and continues with the Year of the Sheep.
Known as the Shēngxiào Collection, the Royal Mint’s Lunar coin series reflects the Shēngxiào tradition, linking each year to one of 12 animals, with the animal traits attributed to those born in a given Lunar year. Celebrated annually in February, it is a time during which it is traditional to exchange tokens and, in particular, gifts of money in red envelopes, symbolizing good wishes for the recipient’s health, wealth and prosperity.
The Year of the Sheep, or Ram, designs are created by British Chinese artist and printmaker Wuon-Gean Ho – who designed the 2014 Year of the Horse coins, which were critically acclaimed by avid coin collectors and mainstream media alike. She continues the theme which once again combines both British and Chinese heritage. The Year of the Sheep coin is the second in this auspicious series, and its design reflects characteristics of those born in the year of the sheep, freedom-loving with a passion for company.
Wuon-Gean’s inspiration for the 2015 series are Swaledale sheep, which are a British breed. She also relied on her veterinary experience and memories of the lambing season. Wuon-Gean recalls observing sheep as part of the British landscape – in the grounds of Blenheim Palace, on the hillsides of the Peak district and in the rolling Brecon Beacons – their presence very much a part of British life. The obverse of all the coins includes the current portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II created by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley and seen on all circulation and several commemorative coins in the UK since 1998.
As the number “8” is considered lucky in Asia, each mintage ends in either one, two or three 8’s as is relevant to the coin and expected demand though several of the 2015 series have reduced mintages from last year.

The Royal Mint have announced that a special double sovereign will be issued to mark the first birthday of the UK’s youngest Prince who is in direct succession to the British throne.
Little Prince George, the son of the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, also known as William & Catherine, was born on the 22nd July to a throng of waiting media from around the world and an eagerly awaiting British public who celebrated his arrival. Prince George is also the grandson of Charles, Prince of Wales and if that wasn’t enough to raise eyebrows, he’s the great-grandson of HM Queen Elizabeth II – who has been the British head of state for sixty two years.
It was reported that Prince George celebrated his first birthday at home with his parents and immediate extended family with a birthday cake made by his mother and some presents to open – like any other one-year old!
The coin appropriately bears the famous St George and the dragon design on the reverse, which was created almost 200 years ago by renowned engraver Benedetto Pistrucci. The obverse includes the current profile of the Queen which was first introduced on British & commonwealth coinage in 1998, it is the work of the distinguished artist Ian Rank-Broadley.
The coin is available as a single coin struck to Brilliant Uncirculated standard. During the month of June the Royal Mint also issued a silver crown displaying the heraldic Royal Arms design in honor of the first birthday of Prince George, which sold out within weeks – along with 400 Brilliant Uncirculated 22 carat gold Sovereigns struck especially for the occasion.

The Royal Mint have announced (13th August) that they have been commissioned to produce a special medal to mark the upcoming NATO summit. From the 4th to the 5th of September, Wales will host the largest gathering of international leaders ever to take place in Britain as the UK hosts the NATOsummit.
The Royal Mint have produced 157 of the limited-edition pieces which will be and given to every world leader attending the summit as a memento of what is set to be a vital summit in the future of NATO. A piece will also be given to all 57 schools in Newport, Wales as a memento of the special role Newport is playing in the summit. The medals, which are not available for purchase, will be presented to attending world leaders and delivered to schools with some pieces being hand-delivered by summit representatives this September.
Wales Office Minister Baroness Randerson was joined the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Newport at the Royal Mint in Pontyclun on the 13th August to see the striking of the final piece. They were also joined by Welsh cadets from across the forces who represented some the schools receiving the pieces.
Designed by the Royal Mint’s talented engraver Jody Clark, the 63 mm bronze medal features the iconic map of Wales with ‘NATO Summit Wales 2014’ in both English and Welsh on one side and the NATO insignia on the other. The design was developed using modern computer-aided techniques, and then transferred to a three dimensional model where it was enhanced before bespoke traditional tools were created to strike the special commemorative pieces.
U.S. President Obama, Germany’s Chancellor Merkel, and France’s President Hollande are expected to attend along with leaders and senior ministers from around 60 other countries. The summit comes as NATO draws down from its longest ever mission in Afghanistan and against a backdrop of instability in Ukraine. It is an opportunity to ensure that NATO continues to be at the forefront of building stability in an unpredictable world. The city center Newport will be transformed into a NATO-themed culture and food celebration in honor of the occasion.
