The third silver specimen coin in the 'Kiwi Treasures' series. The coin captures Mitre Peak in all its glory, with three unfurling fern fronds (koru) swirling around it to represent the realm of Tāwhirimātea (God of the Winds). The 2014 Kiwi Treasures coin combines the kiwi with Mitre Peak - the most prominent and well known feature of Milford Sound.

Aphrodite was the Ancient Greek Goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. Born near Paphos, on the island of Cyprus, Ancient Greek mythology tells the story that Aphrodite’s birth was the consequence of an argument between the Gods.

Because of her beauty, other Gods feared jealousy would interrupt the peace among them and lead to war, so Zeus married her to the God Hephaestus, who was not viewed as a threat. However, Aphrodite had many lovers, both Gods and men.

This coin "Aphrodite" marks the second release in a series of five "Gods of Ancient Greece".

Obverse: This features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Country of Issue - Niue.

Reverse: This high relief, rectangular coin, channels classical and renaissance paintings and sculpture of this iconic God of Ancient Greece. The dramatic moment of Aphrodite’s birth where she is born forth from the white foam of the ocean is sculpted out from the silver of this coin face. Behind her appears the shell which carried her to shore, and the island location which has gone down in mythology as her birthplace. Above this, a dove, sacred to the Goddess flies across a highly polished sky.

The Perth Mint is proud to launch the historic Australian Posters of World War I collector series. Used to invigorate enlistment, the first coin features the ‘A Call from the Dardanelles’ poster, which employed the theme of Australians fighting at Gallipoli.

The reverse of this rectangular coin features a coloured representation of the 1914 ‘A Call from the Dardanelles’ poster, headed by the inscription AUSTRALIAN ENLISTMENT. The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark, and the coin’s weight and fineness also appear in the design.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date, and the monetary denomination are depicted on the coin’s obverse.

The coin is housed in a unique, contemporary, latex case which displays both sides of the coin. The case is packaged within a beautifully illustrated shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

In 1914, despite having recently achieved Federation and an independent government, Australians saw themselves as Britons at the outset of World War I.  As news of the war broke in London, Australia was committed to supporting Britain and her allies, and volunteering began for the Australian Imperial Force.

As time passed, the long lists of Australian casualties increased, and the grim reality of war set in.  Enthusiasm for the war began to fade.  By 1916, the Australian Imperial Force faced a shortage of men and the spectre of conscription was raised.  Referendums were held in 1916 and 1917, both were defeated after furious community debate.

A series of propaganda posters were used to invigorate enlistment.  One such example was the ‘A Call from the Dardanelles’ poster which employed the theme of Australians fighting at Gallipoli.  The poster featured a World War I digger in a slouch hat astride the Dardanelles, one foot on the Gallipoli Peninsula and the other on Asia Minor, calling out the Australian bush cry of ‘coo-ee’.

Reflecting the global popularity of Lord Venkateswara (Tirupati Balaji), a limited collectors‘ edition coin dedicated to the deity has been issued from the Government of Palau, an island nation in the Pacifi c Ocean. The coin is studded with Swarovski crystals and a small diamond.

The Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, popularly known as Tirupati Balaji, in Andhra Pradesh, India is visited by millions of devotees annually. It would be for the fi rst time that a foreign country is issuing coins on this Hindu deity.

Base metals:

• In denomination of 10 Roubles of the series «Towns of Martial Glory»: Nalchik.

Description of the coins of precious metals:

Silver proof coins in denomination of 2 Roubles (fine metal content 15,55 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 33,0 mm, mintage 5000 pcs of each design), have the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated.

The obverse: a relief image of the Emblem of the Bank of Russia - a two-headed eagle with wings down, and a semicircular inscription under it «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA), framed with a circle of beads. Inscriptions along the rim divided by dots indicate the denomination of the coins «ДВА РУБЛЯ» (TWO ROUBLES) and the year of issue «2014», between them - an indication of the metal according to D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Moscow mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse sideof the coins bears:

• A relief image of Asiatic Wild Ass. An inscription along the circumference overhead on the right says – «КУЛАН» (ASIATIC WILD ASS);
• Relief images of two Glossy Ibises. An inscription along the circumference overhead on the left says – «КАРАВАЙКА» (GLOSSY IBIS);
• A relief image of Soldatov's Sheatfish. An inscription along the circumference overhead on the right says – «СОМ СОЛДАТОВА» (SOLDATOV'S SHEATFISH).

Description of the coin of base metals:

A coin is 22.0 mm in diameter, yellow in colour and has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated with each section containing different number of corrugations and alternating with smooth sections.

The obverse: in the upper part of the coin there is an inscription along the rim: «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA), in the lower part - the year of issue «2014». On the left and on the right there are stylized images of a laurel tree and oak twigs respectively. In the center of the disc there is an indication of the face value of the coin «10 РУБЛЕЙ» (10 ROUBLES) in two lines. Inside the figure «0» there is a protective element in the form of the figure «10» and an inscription «РУБ» (RUB) visible by turns when changing an angle of vision. In the lower part of the disc there is a mint trademark.

The reverse side of the coin depictsa relief image of the Nalchik emblem. Inscriptions along the circumference say: «ГОРОДА ВОИНСКОЙ СЛАВЫ» (TOWNS OF MARTIAL GLORY) at the top and «НАЛЬЧИК» (NALCHIK) at the bottom.

The Tokelau reverse-proof Lunar Horse coin appears to have been very successful and we recently reported on the low-mintage antique and proof versions. The coin from Australian producers, Treasures of Oz, was a clean and elegant design that’s won over plenty of fans. On the back of that success, they’ve decided to expand the range with two new pieces in exactly the same style and format.

Being issued for Tokelau means the $5 denomination is in New Zealand currency, and the obverse carries the classic Ian Rank Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

While they’re not all shown here yet, there will also be proof and gilded versions, the latter having some fine potential, and the former will look great if the standard horse coin is any indication. Mintages of the variants differ; the reverse-proof coins being the biggest release with 50,000 available. The coloured proof version will hit 5,000 units, and the standard proof, antique and gilded versions will top out at 2,500. The reverse proof coins should be available anytime now, with the coloured proof hitting the market in mid-January. The other three versions are minted to order so if you want them, bug your dealer to get some. We mocked up a couple of gilded ones, which we can’t show for the obvious reasons, but we thought they looked great so keep an eye out for them.

THE UNICORN

Excellent artwork here, adorned with a powerful, anatomically good looking horse, and some very well detailed plant life in the background. We really like this one.

Legends of the mystical Unicorn have existed since antiquity, speaking of a wild and extraordinary horse bearing a single spiraled horn upon its forehead.  Many different cultures tell of the unicorn, and their tales are found throughout Europe and Asia. The beautiful unicorn dances through the forest, its cloven hooves barely denting the ground.  These creatures represent the purest grace and beauty, and were said to only appear to the most virtuous people.

PEGASUS

Again, some fine-looking artwork on the reverse of the coin, that looks good in both the antique and reverse-proof finishes.

The winged horse Pegasus is a creature of power and strength.  These magnificent creatures soar through the air on massive wings shining with downy feathers.  They are said to be so light they can walk upon clouds, and so fierce they can control the weather itself, bringing mighty storms or the gentlest spring breeze. Pegasus has a wild spirit, but those who manage to befriend one will have a noble and trusted steed for life.

COLOURED PROOF

Below we have the concept artwork for the coins, so it’ll be hard to tell how well they’ll pull off the colouring, but the extent of the application and the choice of colours looks spot-on to us, especially the Pegasus.

Ilaly presents a new silver coin "Gioachino Rossini" in Europe (European Musicians) Program. The issuance of the currency is the March 17 , 2014.

Gioachino Antonio Rossini (29 February 1792& – 13 November 1868) was an Italian who wrote 39 operas as well as sacred music, chamber music, songs, and some instrumental and piano pieces. His best-known operas include the Italian comedies Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) and La Cenerentola and the French-language epics Moïse et Pharaon and Guillaume Tell. A tendency for inspired, song-like melodies is evident throughout his scores, which led to the nickname "The Italian Mozart". Until his retirement in 1829, Rossini had been the most popular opera composer in history.

Obverse bears the image of the bust Gioachino Rossini adapted from a marble sculpture by an unknown author, which is preserved in the International Music Museum of Bologna.

Reverse shows a scene in the Teatro Rossini in Pesaro, with a magpie in flight having a collar at its peak, an allegory of the opera La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie). On the right side – the notes of the opera Majestic Marciale Rossini. Designer: Uliana Pernazza.

The 2014 coin from the popular annual Australian Antarctic Territory Series features the Wandering Albatross. It is the eleventh coin in the Antarctic Territory series.

One of the world’s most fascinating sea birds, the albatross has the largest wingspan of any living bird, measuring up to 3.5 metres, which allows it to fly whilst hardly having to flap its wings. This impressive bird can travel vast distances, covering several thousand kilometres in just one week, and will fly further in their lifetime than any other bird on Earth.

The Wandering Albatross is also one of the longest living birds in the world. Known to live to the age of 50 years or more, the albatross mates for life and breeds every two years, laying just one egg at a time, with both the male and the female taking turns to tend to the nest.

The coin’s coloured reverse depicts a Wandering Albatross flying past an iceberg in the Southern Ocean within an outline of Antarctica. As well as the inscription 2014 WANDERING ALBATROSS, the design also includes the words ‘Australian Antarctic Territory’ and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The Lithuanian Mint is delighted to present a new coin, which dedicated the 300th anniversary of the birth of Kristijonas Donelaitis.

The obverse of the coin features a stylized coat of arms of the Republic of Lithuania, which is surrounded by the inscriptions "LIETUVA 2014, 50 LITŲ" and images of the life of Lithuanian peasants. The mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint is impressed on the obverse of the coin.

On the reverse of the coin, works and activities of Lithuanian peasants, depicted with reference to motifs of the poem “Metai” by Kristijonas Donelaitis, as well as the Sun, which represents the Earth’s natural cycle change, revolve in the eternal circle of life. There is an inscription "KRISTIJONAS DONELAITIS, 300".

The edge of the coin bears the inscription: "JAU SAULELĖ VĖL ATKOPDAMA BUDINO SVIETĄ" (THE CLIMBING SUN AGAIN WAS WAKENING THE WORLD). Designed by by Tadas Žebrauskas and Giedrius Paulauskis. The coin was minted at the state enterprise Lithuanian Mint.
