80th Anniversary of Malaysian Armed Forces coin

Bank Negara Malaysia has launch a 80 years ATM coins in conjunction with the 80th Anniversary of Malaysian Armed Forces. Three kind of coins will be available; RM100 gold proof coin, RM50 silver proof coin and RM1 Nordic Gold.

The origin of the Malaysian Armed Forces or Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM) dates back to the formation of the Malay Regiment on 1 March 1933, which later officially known as the Malaysian Armed Forces with the formation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963. Eight decades have passed which saw the Malaysian Armed Forces evolve to a Full Spectrum Force.

The coin obverse show three divisions of the Malaysian Armed Forces are depicted by, namely, the fighter jet to represent the Royal Malaysian Air Force, the tank to represent the Malaysian Army and the submarine to represent the Royal Malaysian Navy. The words “ULANG TAHUN KE-80 ANGKATAN TENTERA MALAYSIA” appear on the upper circumference of the coin while the years 1933 – 2013 denoting the 80 year anniversary of the Malaysian Armed Forces are inscribed on the lower circumference.

The coin Reverse show the logo of the Malaysian Armed Forces appears in the centre of the coin. The words “BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA” as the issuing authority of the commemorative coin is featured on the upper circumference of the coin, while the face value of the coin is inscribed on the lower circumference.

It will be sold at RM2,000 per set with 500 sets available. The set of two consists the silver and Nordic gold proof coins. This set will be sold at RM200 per set with 750 sets available.

These commemorative coins will be available for sale from 23 December 2013 at Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery (MAG) located at Sasana Kijang, Kuala Lumpur, regional offices in Pulau Pinang and Johor Bahru, and branches located in Kuala Terengganu, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
