Designer and interior architect Ilmari Tapiovaara (1914-1999) is one of the most renowned Finnish designers. His most famous designs include the Domus and Mademoiselle chairs. Tapiovaara's work was based on ideas of social responsibility and democracy.

Proof-quality collector coins are minted with a polished die, finished, and placed in a protective clear plastic casing set in a box that tells the coin's story. The new gift box has been made lower than those of collector coins released earlier in 2014. The new box is the same size as the box of the EUR 10 Tapiovaara coin. The collector coin's obverse depicts the Mademoiselle chair. The reverse features a map of the world, with Tapiovaara's destinations of 1937, 1952, 1958, 1964 and 1974 – France, the United States, Paraguay, the Soviet Union and Mauritius – marked with sectors and dates spreading outwards from Finland.
