The 22nd Winter Olympic Games were held in the Russian city of Sochi on the Black Sea shore at the Caucasus foothills between 7 and 23 February 2014. They were the second Olympic Games held in Russia and the first Winter Olympic Games held in the country.
The venue was divided into two parts – the sports grounds were situated in Sochi and in the mountain sport centre Krasnaya Polyana. After the Winter Olympic Games the Winter Paralympic Games 2014 are scheduled for the same venue.
The author of the silver gilded commemorative medal Petr Horák placed the Fisht Olympic stadium in Sochi on the obverse side of the medal (in Russian Олимпийский стадион «Фишт» – "Fisht" Olympic Stadium). This modern stadium was the venue of the opening and the closing ceremonies of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and of the traditional decorating of the winning athletes with Olympic medals. The capacity of this modern sports tabernacle is 40,000 spectators.
