Christmas is a time for celebration, peace, joy, hope and happiness. It is also a time for giving and embracing age-old traditions. One such tradition is the giving and receiving of coins, which many believe was started by Saint Nicholas.
The uncirculated $1 coin is struck by The Perth Mint from high quality aluminium bronze.
The reverse of the coin portrays a beautiful coloured image of festive candles surrounded by holly. The inscription ‘Merry Christmas’, the 2013 year-date and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark complete the design.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and the monetary denomination.
A stunning design featuring festive candles, holly, pinecones and filigree patterns feature on the envelope packaging and the Australia Post 60c stamp, which is postmarked for the first day of issue. Inside the envelope is a similarly designed card which houses the coin. The envelope also includes a Seal of Authenticity and official release number by Australia Post.Country: Australia
