The Royal Canadian Mint refines silver and gold coins "The legend of Spirit Bear". The coins were designed by Coast Salish First Nation's artist Darlene Gait.
Spirit Bear is a great source of intrigue, as is the First Nations legend how this unique bear came to be. When Raven first created the world, everything was white. After some time, Raven decided the world needed colour, but as the ice began to melt, people started fighting over the land that appeared. Years passed, more and more animals changed colour and the world became more beautiful than ever, but the people kept fighting over everything. So, Raven decided to remind them where they came from by turning one in every ten bears white. Spirit Bear, also called the Kermode Bear, still wanders the islands of British Columbia to bring this message to the world.
The obverse includes the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the fourth effigy of the queen to appear on Canadian coinage, was executed by the artist Susanna Blunt. The legend ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA ("Elizabeth II, Queen by the Grace of God") also appears.
The reverse showcases a white Raven. Below, retreating snow and ice reveal a wondrous new world brimming with life. Communities of earth mounds dot the land and people can now navigate rivers by canoe. British Columbia's mountains rise in the background and a prophetic bear totem appears before the sun. People gather around a great fire, seemingly in preparation of war; a sight that inspires Raven to wave its wing once again to turn the great, humble bear white.

To commemorate the Netherlands defying expectations by reaching the World Cup semifinals, the Royal Dutch Mint is producing a limited edition coin featuring Robin van Persie's memorable diving header. Van Persie's goal was the team's first in their World Cup opener against Spain and has remained one of the lasting images of the tournament — even launching the summer's most popula meme.
Only 6,000 coins will be produced and all of them sold out within the first day of going on sale for€9.95 ($13.54) despite a limit of two per person. But since the coin is not legal tender, it will only have value to collectors.
Rumors of an Arjen Robben bank note that frequently slips out of your wallet and gently falls to the ground have yet to be confirmed because I just made them up.

All elements depicted on the coin refer symbolically to the first world war operations. Prussian and British helmets are presented as symbols of the Triple Entente and Central Powers between which the armed conflict broke out. A tank and barricades symbolize a clash of modern technologies with strategy and tactics. For the first time in military history new machines, like airplanes, submarines, tanks and trucks, were used. The coin also features an eagle of the Polish Legions symbolizing the resurrection of Polish sovereignty.
The coin stands out due to the use of a latent image – on its reverse 1914 and 2014 change depending on a viewing angle.
In the central part of the reverse – a French tank, entanglements, a weapon, protective bags, helmets and an eagle of the Polish Legions. At the bottom, along the rim – an inscription: 100th ANNIVERSARY. In the upper part of the coin – an inscription: THE FIRST WORLD WAR and a latent image – 1914/2014.
In the central part of the obverse – the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. On the right – the mint mark (m/w). Below – the hallmark: Ag 999. In the rim – inscriptions: ELIZABETH II, NIUE ISLAND (the issuer), 1 DOLLAR (the face value) and the year of issue – 2014.

The Royal Mint UK have launched four new coins of significant size to mark the 100th anniversary of the commencement of the First World War, once known as the Great War. The coins launched include gold and silver one-kilo coins and five-ounce coins with very limited mintages and startling designs to mark an anniversary being observed in many countries all over the world. The Royal Mint has commissioned two artists whose work has been previously noted for their detail, artistry and individuality in style.
Michael Sandle RA, known for his war-themed work, has created a haunting reverse for the 2014 Kilo, depicting the sadness of soldiers moving from the trenches into no man’s land, in the form of a lonely figure of a soldier in full cape and familiar ‘Brodie’ helmet marching through the mist.
John Bergdahl, recently designed the coins marking the Christening of Prince George, his Five-Ounce coin design recalls the first wave of troops departing Britain, watched over by Britannia, with a lion at her side, guardian of Britain.
The obverse of each coin features the current coinage portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS, used on all British circulation and many commemorative coins since 1998. The coins have been finished to The Royal Mint’s Satin Proof standard, highlighting every detail created by their artists and refined by the artistry of The Royal Mint’s engravers.
Each coin is presented in its own handsome case and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity to confirm its low mintage. Each coin comes with a booklet giving a snapshot of Britain at the outbreak of war, and the inspiration behind the designs. The Kilo and the Five-Ounce, in fine silver and fine gold are issued as part of its on-going five-year programme commemorating the First World War, from outbreak to armistice.

The maple leaf is a powerful Canadian national symbol. Its popularity is largely due to the fact that it is such a big part of everyday life in Canada. First Nations people have long treasured the maple; they were the first to savour its delicious springtime sap. The maple shaped the lives of Canada's first settlers in countless ways and ultimately became synonymous with the ideals that lured them here – hope, opportunity and freedom that make the maple leaf a timeless keepsake to inspire generations.
Coin is a beautiful design of two maple leaves selectively enamelled in red and green to reflect the ever-changing beauty of Canada's national symbol through the seasons with rays of sunshine in the background accented with matte and brilliant finishes.
