The Sterlet.
Series: Flora and Fauna.
The commemorative coin is dedicated to the sterlet, an endangered species of sturgeon. This bottom-dwelling fish is usually found in deep river basins with clean flowing water, and tends to live alone or in small groups. The sterlet is in Ukraine`s Red List of Threatened Species.
Obverse: within the wreath formed from the images of different species of the flora and fauna there are the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine and the legends: НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ/ БАНК /УКРАЇНИ/ 10/ ГРИВЕНЬ/ 2012 (National / Bank / of Ukraine / 10 / hryvnias / 2012) together with the indications of the metal and its fineness Ag 925 and the coin weight in fineness 31,1); below there is the logo of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.
Reverse: there is the image of sterlet together with the inscriptions: below, against the light background imitating the sandy bottom, СТЕРЛЯДЬ ПРІСНОВОДНА (Sterlet of fresh-waters) and above ACIPENSER RUTHENUS.
